Steve Mingori(1-0) was called upon to do the job and he was the winning pitcher. He surrendered 1 hit and 2 walks in 2 innings. Cleveland finished with 9 hits in the victory. Bill Lee(0-1) was the loser in relief. He pitched 1 inning allowing 3 hits and no walks. California made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. Pattin got help from Ken Sanders who earned his 3rd save. Tom Murphy(0-2) absorbed the loss. He pitched 6 innings and surrendered 7 hits and 3 walks. Stadium. Kline(1-0) was in control of the game from the outset. He allowed only 8 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. New York had only 6 hits for the game. The loss was charged to Dick Bosman(1-1). He gave up 3 runs and 2 hits in 7 innings. Detroit took the lead for keeps in the top of the 7th inning plating an isolated run. Detroit managed 8 in their victory. Dean Chance(1-0) allowed 1 run in 7 innings, and picked up the victory. Pat Dobson(0-1) ended up with the loss. He pitched 7 innings giving up only 4 hits and 1 walk.

The critical plate appearance was by Mike Andrews who made the crowd come alive when he smashed a two-run homer (his 2nd of the season). For the game Chicago out-hit Minnesota 11 to 7.
