In a tight game it was the Cleveland Indians 5, the Boston Red Sox 3 at
Municipal Stadium.

Steve Mingori(1-0) was called upon to do the job and he was the winning
pitcher. He surrendered 1 hit and 2 walks in 2 innings. Cleveland finished
with 9 hits in the victory.

Bill Lee(0-1) was the loser in relief. He pitched 1 inning allowing 3 hits
and no walks.

separated the combatants at game's end. The Milwaukee Brewers won by the
slimmest of margins, 4 to 3.

Milwaukee scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning when they had 4 base
hits. That was all Marty Pattin(2-0) needed. California made it exciting in
the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.

Pattin got help from Ken Sanders who earned his 3rd save. Tom Murphy(0-2)
absorbed the loss. He pitched 6 innings and surrendered 7 hits and 3 walks.

Steve Kline hurled a fine complete game shutout as the New York Yankees
defeated the Washington Senators by a score of 5 to 0 at R.F.K.
Stadium.

Kline(1-0) was in control of the game from the outset. He allowed only 8 hits
and 1 walk in 9 innings. New York had only 6 hits for the game.

The loss was charged to Dick Bosman(1-1). He gave up 3 runs and 2 hits in 7
innings.

In a lop-sided win the New York Yankees ripped the Washington Senators by a 10
to 3 count.

New York set the tone of the game in the first inning scoring one runner. For
the game New York out-hit Washington 12 to 7.

Mike Kekich(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings.
Bill Burbach was credited with his 1st save. Casey Cox(0-2) was tagged with
the loss.

At Memorial Stadium the Detroit Tigers easily handled the Baltimore Orioles by
the score of 5 to 1.

Detroit took the lead for keeps in the top of the 7th inning plating an
isolated run. Detroit managed 8 in their victory.

Dean Chance(1-0) allowed 1 run in 7 innings, and picked up the victory. Pat
Dobson(0-1) ended up with the loss. He pitched 7 innings giving up only 4
hits and 1 walk.

Walt Williams had 2 base hits at Comiskey Park as the Chicago White Sox beat
the Minnesota Twins by the count of 11 to 2.

Chicago started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of the
first when they tallied 2 runs on 2 hits. The critical plate appearance was
by Mike Andrews who made the crowd come alive when he smashed a two-run homer
(his 2nd of the season). For the game Chicago out-hit Minnesota 11 to 7.

Bart Johnson(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 7 and 2/3 innings.
Jim Kaat(0-1) was charged with the loss. He was touched for 9 hits and 4
walks in 5 innings.

complete game as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Detroit Tigers by the

hits and 3 walks in 9 innings. Baltimore had 10 hits for the night.

Mike Kilkenny(0-1) was given the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 10
